Europe
Director of European Affairs
Mr. Mitko Chatalbashev: mitko.chatalbashev@cisac.org
In September 2003, CISAC opened a European branch in Budapest, housed by the Hungarian authors’society ARTISJUS. Its missions are to serve as a link between all the European societies and to develop and strengthen the protection of authors’ rights in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
In 2003, the Department began to organise various seminars covering private copying, EU legal issues, audiovisual rights and legal practices in the field of collective administration. These seminars have proven to be an important source of information for many of the younger Central and Eastern European societies, allowing them to exchange ideas and techniques with Western European sister societies. In addition to the participation from CISAC’s member societies in Western Europe, these seminars have also served as an important forum for collaboration with WIPO and the pan-European body GESAC.
Legal and lobbying activities have also played an important role in the activities of the Budapest office.
